A well driven individual with hunger to succeed. Playing experience at Regional and County level having spent several youth years playing for North of England School of Rugby.
Unfortunately, persistent injuries to the ankle/lower leg and a subsequent achillies rupture prevented me from regularly training or playing at a competitive level resulting in a permanent break from the pitch following a lengthy rehab process.
Following injury, and still possessing a desire to be involved in the sport I decided to pursue a career in Rugby coaching. I have played every position in the game competently. My playing experience has given me an excellent base level to coach players across a range of positions. In order to augment my practical experience I am currently studying towards a Sports Coaching (BSc) degree in order to further my career in the Rugby Coaching industry.
As 1st Team Assistant Coach, the role included both the planning and coaching of multiple sessions per week for the senior teams of the club in conjunction with other 1st Team staff. Similarly, I was heavily involved in the development of elite level skills for both 1st and 2nd team players in order to smooth the transition within senior rugby playing levels, enforce a consistent operating practice for the club and to promote senior playing cohesion.
I held a major role within weekly squad selection based on form, reporting back to the Head Coach and Selection Committee and oversaw the management of either the 1st or 2nd team squad on match day. Further to this I implemented videoing games and training sessions in order to analyse player performance.
Following two successful years with Consett RFC I was appointed Attack & Backs Coach at Gateshead RFC who play Level 7 rugby in the Durham & Northumberland Division One league. The role focused on developing an attacking brand of rugby throughout the senior squads and culminated in a respectable top half finish within a highly competitive league as well as a solid cup run against National Level opposition.
Constant improvement and learning is key to coaching. Regularly attending continual professional development courses, adopting a "Kaizen" approach allows my knowledge and understanding to continuously grow.
Below are the qualifications I have gained and courses I have attended.
